Opening Night stirs feelings of anticipation, exhilaration and celebration. This September the ASO’s Opening Night is also a community celebration as the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts unveils the new Atwood Concert Hall acoustical shell. Maestro Fleischer has programmed a grand concert to mark this occasion with Rachmaninoff’s bold, youthful Piano Concerto No. 1 featuring the transcendent Olga Kern, 2001 Van Cliburn gold-medalist. The festivity continues with Tchaikovsky’s triumphant Marche Slave and Silbelius’ heroic Symphony No. 2.
